Apple Watch user credits high heart rate monitoring feature with detecting irregularity

The heart monitoring features of the Apple Watch are again being credited with alerting a user to an undiagnosed condition. As 24 News reports, 25-year-old Zachary Zies was notified by his watch of a high resting heart rate at 210 beats per minute. As the report explains, Zies, a recent graduate of Ohio State University, has battled Friedreich’s ataxia for most of his life and been in a wheelchair since middle school.

Trans people in India can now apply to have their gender identity legally recognised online through a new government portal. The portal, launched on Wednesday (25 November) by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), will allow trans people to have their gender identity certified by the district magistrate without visiting government offices.

It is not uncommon for political tensions in the United States to boil up during Thanksgiving gatherings. But new research suggests that political polarization is not cutting Thanksgiving short. The study, published in PLOS One, indicates that there is no significant difference between the duration of Thanksgiving dinners with politically-diverse attendees and the duration of dinners with politically-uniform attendees.
